About The Technology:

The Mako technology provides our expert surgeons with patient-specific 3-D models to pre-plan surgeries. During surgery, our surgeons guide the Mako robotic-arm based on the patient-specific plan. This allows the surgeon to remove only the “diseased” bone, while preserving healthy bone and soft tissue. The technology also assists our surgeons in perfectly positioning any implants based on exactly on the patients anatomy.

What is Makoplasty?
Makoplasty Knee Replacement procedures differ from traditional knee replacement procedures as they only target the areas of the knee damaged by osteoarthritis while leaving the healthy portion of the knee intact.

By selectively targeting the part of your knee damaged by OA, your surgeon can replace the diseased part of your knee while helping to spare the healthy bone and ligaments surrounding it. This procedure is ideal for patients with Stage 2 or Stage 3 osteoarthritis of the knee.

The Makoplasty Advantage
The Makoplasty advantage holds several advantages over traditional knee replacement by creating a surgical plan customized to fit you. Advantages include:

Before Surgery

It all begins with a CT scan of your joint that is used to generate a 3D virtual model of your unique anatomy. This virtual model is loaded into the Mako system software and is used to create your personalized pre-operative plan.

In the Operating Room

In the operating room, your surgeon will use Mako to assist in performing your surgery based on your personalized pre-operative plan. The Mako system also allows your surgeon to make adjustments to your plan during surgery as needed. When the surgeon prepares the bone for the implant, the Mako system guides the surgeon within the pre-defined area and helps prevent the surgeon from moving outside the planned boundaries. This helps provide more accurate placement and alignment of your implant.

Quick Information about Knee Makoplasty

For anyone suffering from knee osteoarthritis or degenerative knee conditions, High Mountain Orthopedics offers the MAKOplasty Partial Knee Resurfacing procedure. Unlike total knee replacement (which replaces the entire knee joint), the MAKOplasty procedure enables our surgeons to accurately repair only the damaged portion of a the knee. This leaves the healthy, unaffected portions intact. We have 3D knee modeling capabilities and use state-of-the-art robotic arm technology. As a result, the patient’s knee is able to be restored to proper functionality with a quicker and more efficient recovery.
